CHIEF INVESTIGATORS   STUDENTS
Applications must be submitted from a WQRA member organisation   Preference is given to students enrolled at member universities
Project must align with WQRA research priorities issues   Applications are open to domestic students only
Letters of collaborator/s support is to be submitted with application.  If more than two letters submit as one document.   Preference is given to 3rd and 4th  year undergratuate students, however 2nd year students may apply
A supervisor is to attend the February Members meeting in support to the student.  Should an organisation have more than one summer student, a nominee from the organisation can support both/all students   Students must be available for Orientation Day in November 2012
Supervisors are to be supported by their own organisation to attend WQRA events   Students must be available to give presentation of their research outcomes at the 2012 February Members meeting
The WQRA Summer scholarship initiative is a professional development opportunity for an early career researcher to supervise a student   WQRA provide travel and accommodation in support for the student to attend events
Background details of successfully funded projects will be placed on the WQRA website   Student reports are to be submitted by
31 March.  The reports will be placed on the website
If more than one CV, collate and attach as one document    When accessing the project proposals use bookmarks to find your project of interest
If more than two collaborators, attached the letters of support in one document    

 

Application Information

-Project Proposal applications must be according to the guidelines as detailed in documents COR-003 and PRO-010.  All essential criteria must be met.   -The Summer Scholarship Agreement must be signed by the host organisation and WQRA before commencement of scholarship.
-The Summer Scholarship Agreement must be signed by WQRA and the host organisation before commencement of scholarship   -Prospective applicants are advised to contact the supervisor listed for the project to discuss their interest and suitability to the project requirements prior to submitting an application.
-Chief Investigators are limited to submitting a maximum of one application per Initiative   -Students may apply for up to two projects
-Summer projects may be associated with a larger project, however the scope of the summer project must be clearly defined   -CV and official academic transcript is to be attached as one document.  Please note, it may take up to one week or more to obtain documentation - this needs to be factored in.
 -WQRA encourages members to submit collaborative projects where the student undertakes their research on location with a research member as well as an industry member.    -WQRA reserves the right not to award all scholarships
-A specific student may be nominated on the project proposal if there is a preferred candidate.  Ensure any nominated student is eligible for a WQRA scholarship.    
-The budget is to identify support / resources for the student

  • ensure academic record and CV is attached
  • be suitable for a 10 week summer project
 
  • referees have been notified
  • clearly define summer project
 
  • have contacted supervisor to ensure suitability to the project
  • clearly define objectives, benefits to industry and research outcomes
 
  • ensure content of application includes work experience and skills/study which relate to the project requirements
  • clearly identify resources to support the student / project
 
  • demonstrate motivation to be involved with the water industry
  • clearly define a 10 week project plan
 
  • Your application will receive a score based on

a)  academic record

b) quality of written application

c) skills/study match
