Australian Water Research and Development Coalition (AWRDC)
Collectively the Commonwealth, State and Industry will be making an estimated $250 million cash investment by the utilities and urban water R&D Brokers over the next 5 years. A substantial proportion of these funds will be managed through organisations investing in a broad range of research areas, including drinking water treatment and management, recycled water (technology, efficiency, acceptance), stormwater, desalination, groundwater, wastewater treatment and management, water quality, public health, smart cities, infrastructure, climate and energy, policy and regulation, technology and consumer insights.
The R&D organisations that form the Australian Water R&D Coalition are those organisations that are the vehicles to facilitate, coordinate and invest in urban water R&D on behalf of state government, federal government and industry sponsors. These organisations do not undertake research themselves, but act as research knowledge brokers to further adoption of Australian water research for the benefit of the wider community. The AWRDC members include: the Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence, Goyder Institute for Water Research, National Centre of Excellence for Desalination, National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training, National Water Commission, Urban Water Security Research Alliance, Victorian Smart Water Fund, Water Services Association of Australia and Water Quality Research Australia.
Information on each of these organisations can be found in the booklet prepared for the AWA OzWater11 conference. PDF The presentations from the AWA Ozwater 11 Workshop session "Investing in the Urban Water R&D Landscape in Australia" can be accessed through the AWA OzWater 11 website here.
